Class Policies
Classes are limited to 6 students, so please sign up in advance. Payment is required to reserve your space. Class fees will be refunded if we are notified at least 7 days before the class begins. If the class is canceled by Spool, you will receive a full refund. Materials are not included unless otherwise noted. Please come to class with, or prepared to purchase, a rotary cutter, mat, scissors, pins and any other supplies you may need for your project.
Learn To Sew$48, includes materials - Thursdays, 6 to 8 PM: July 3 & 10 Wednesdays, 6 to 8 PM: July 23 & 30
Sundays, 12 to 2 PM: July 13 & 20 or August 10 & 17
Never used a sewing machine before? Wondering what that pizza cutter thing is? This is the class for you! You'll learn the basics of using a machine and make your first foray into rotary cutting to create a sweet tote bag.
A-Line Skirts$48 plus pattern, fabric and thread - Sundays, 2:30 to 5:30 PM: July 13 & 20 or August 10 & 17
Spruce up your Summer wardrobe with your own handmade, one of a kind skirt! Learn to use a pattern and take good measurements to ensure a proper fit. We will be using Amy Butler's Barcelona Skirt pattern. Use this pattern again and again to create a unique skirt for every day of the week! To take this class, you should know your way around a sewing machine and have completed at least one other small project. Please come to the shop to pick out your fabric a few days prior to the class, so that you can launder and press it before the first class.
Beginning Quilting$80 plus materials - Saturdays, 11 AM to 1 PM: June 21, 28, July 5, 12 & 26
Thursdays, 6 to 8 PM: July 17, 24, 31, Aug 7 & 21
With Alex Anderson's Start Quilting as our guide, we will learn to machine piece a beautiful lap sized quilt, using 4 basic blocks. Then, we will discover the joys of hand quilting as we finish our first masterpiece. You should be familiar with sewing basics to take this class.
Bird in the Hand Demonstration$10 materials included - Saturday, 1 to 2 PM: July 5
Come to our demonstration in stitching up this sweet birdie and get
the pattern and materials you need to get started. These guys make
great gifts and are a fun portable project. All you need to bring is
yourself!
Birdie Sling$32 plus pattern & materials - Saturdays, 2 to 4 pm: July 12 & 19
This stylish satchel is a great way to expand your sewing skills. Working from Amy Butler's Birdie Sling pattern, you will learn to use interfacing, sew curved seams, and make pleats! You will need 1.25 yards of three different fabrics, interfacing and your basic sewing supplies. (See the version that Laura made!)
Open Sewing$5 per hour Monday through Friday from 12-5; Saturday & Sunday 1-5
You are welcome to use our sewing machines for your projects. We offer a clean, bright, quiet space to get creative. You should be familiar with sewing basics for this project time. Please bring your thread, bobbins, rotary cutter, scissors and any other supplies you may need for your project.
