Class Registration

Class Policies

Classes are limited to 8 students, so please sign up in advance.

Payment is required to reserve your space.

You must be at least 18 years old to take a class.

Class fees will be refunded if we are notified at least 7 days before the class begins. If the class is canceled by Spool, you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made less then seven days in advance will be entitled to a 50% refund of class fees. If less than 48 hours notice is given, we are not able to refund your class fees.

Sewing machines are provided for each student. Materials are not included unless otherwise noted.

Private Sewing Lessons
$25 per hour, plus materials. One hour minimum.

If you don’t see the class you’re looking for or if you prefer to learn one-on-one, we offer private lessons on weekdays. Please call or stop in to discuss your goals with us and to schedule a lesson.

Ready to get sewing but not sure how to start? Then this is the class for you! You’ll learn the basics of using a machine and make your first foray into rotary cutting to create a pretty and useful grocery tote.

Spruce up your wardrobe with your own handmade, one of a kind skirt! Learn to use a pattern and take good measurements to ensure a proper fit. We will be using Amy Butler’s Barcelona Skirts pattern. Use this pattern again and again to create a unique skirt for every day of the week!

Please come to class with your fabric selected & laundered. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: pattern, 2 yards fabric, 1.5 yards lining fabric, thread and 7″ zipper. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Ginger Skirt
$70 plus materials

Add a little spice to the aline style with Colette Patterns Ginger Skirt! This flattering aline shape has a high waistband that can be made 3 ways: pointed center waist, curved shaped band, or straight across. Learn to fit this skirt to your measurements and install an invisible zipper.

Please come to class with your fabric selected and laundered. You should be comfortable with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: Pattern, thread, 9” invisible zipper, lightweight fusible interfacing, 1.5 – 2 yards of fabric depending on size and style. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Wrap Skirt

Nothing says summer like an easy wrap skirt! Kwik Sew 2954 has a simple tie around waistband, straight skirt styling, and darts at the waist.You will be wearing this to all the backyard barbeques this summer!

Please come to class with your fabric selected & laundered and paper pattern pieces cut out. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: Kwik Sew 2954, 2-3.5 yards fabric depending on size, thread. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Circle Skirt

Our pretty, feminine circle skirt will have you wanting to do twirls! Using Kwik Sew 3637, learn to make a faced waistband and insert a side zipper.

Please come to class with your fabric selected & laundered and paper pattern pieces cut out. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Smocked Sundress

Make your very own summery dress using the fun, simple smocking technique. Heather Ross has generously provided a free pattern on her website to make this adorable frock!

You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Crepe
$90 plus materials

A sweet and easy wrap dress with no closures to sew from Colette Patterns. The dress wraps in back and has cap sleeves. The wide ties encircle the waist for a comfortable dress with a fitted look. Version 1 has a rounded neckline, while Version 2 has a shaped sweetheart neckline and waist ties in a contrasting fabric.

Kids Sewing

Simple Sewing for Baby

On the 1st Sunday of each month we will be sewing the adorable projects from Lotta Jansdotter’s Simple Sewing for Baby. This is a the perfect time to take a break to sew for your little ones! All of the projects in this book are geared towards the novice sewer, so if you’re just getting started these are the classes for you!

You will need a copy of Simple Sewing for Baby so, when you sign up for any class in this series, take 20% off the cost of your book!

Simple Dress

Quilting

Beginning Quilting

Tuesdays, March 27, April 3, 10, 18 & 24: 6-8PM

Make your very first quilt from start to finish in this 5 week course! In the first class you will select your fabrics and then move on to learn rotary cutting, strip piecing techniques, machine quilting and binding. Your finished piece is perfect for a baby quilt or wall hanging.

You will select your fabrics in the first class. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

There will be homework for this class, so you will need access to a sewing machine or be prepared to rent time on our machines.

Materials: 4.75 yards fabric total, batting, thread for piecing and for quilting. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Quilted Baby Blanket

This simple baby quilt will show you the basics of basting, machine quilting and binding. This a great intro to quilting, and a perfect way to learn how to finish up those quilt tops you’ve been accumulating. Your finished quilt will be 36” x 44” and makes a thoughtful baby gift!

Please come to class with your fabric selected. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: 1 yd for front, 1 yd for back, 1/2 yd for binding, batting, thread. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Piano Keys Quilt
$50 plus materials

Saturday, April 28: 11AM-3PM
Saturday, June 23: 11AM-3PM

Explore your color creativity with this amazing quilt! Come to class with your fabric cut and ready to go. You will arrange your blocks & piece a unique quilt top suitable for a wall hanging, lap blanket or baby quilt. You will work on the quilt top in the class and take home the necessary instructions to finish the quilt at home.

You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: Pattern, 10 fat quarters or 1/4 yards, thread. 60″ x 60″ batting, to be used as a design wall during class, and then you can quilt with it! You must come to class with your fabric already cut into blocks.

Finished size: 44″ x 48″. Pattern includes instructions for a 72″ x 80″ version as well.

Hexagon Machine Piecing
$40 plus materials

Hexagons are so cool- and so is this technique for piecing them by machine! Learn to use a template, prepare pieces for sewing and then get started creating a placemat, table topper, or quilt project!

Please come to class with your fabric selected. You should be comfortable with sewing machine basics and rotary cutting to take this class.

Materials: Hexagon template ruler, thread, at least a ½ yard of 2 fabrics or a variety of ¼ yards if you’d like more hexagon variety. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Hexagon Paper Piecing
$30 plus materials

Saturday, April 14: 12-2PM

Get started with hand sewing using the classic technique of English Paper Piecing. You will learn to use paper templates and hand basting and stitching to get started on your very own Grandmother’s flower garden design.

Materials: Paper piecing templates, a variety of fabrics, thread, hand sewing needle. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions

The Practical Guide to Patchwork

This year we will be working our way through the quilts from The Practical Guide to Patchwork by Elizabeth Hartman, our favorite book for beginning quilters. This book includes all the information you need to create a modern quilt- from color & fabric selection to rotary cutting to basting and binding.

We are starting at the beginning of the book and focusing on one quilt each month! The first session of each class will be devoted to fabric selection and learning how to create the chosen block. From there, you will work at your own pace while creating your quilt top.

Small Plates
$45 plus materials

Sundays, March 11 & 25: 11:30AM-2:30PM

Showcase your favorite fabrics and learn to make the tried and true Square in a Square block! Finished size: 68” x 85”.

You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Quilt Top Materials: The Practical Guide to Patchwork, ½ yard of 10 different fabrics, 2.5 yards of solid for contrast, thread.

Batch of Brownies
$45 plus materials

Sundays, April 1, 15 & 22: 11:30-1:30PM

Use the “stack, cut & shuffle” method to slice through your quilt rectangles in both directions- just like a pan a of brownies! Yum! Finished Size: 62” x 62”.

The first session of each class will be devoted to fabric selection and learning how to create the chosen block. From there, you will work at your own pace while creating your quilt top. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Quilt Top Materials: A Practical Guide to Patchwork, 6 yards of fabric total for the quilt top, thread.

Valentine
$45 plus materials

Sundays, May 6: 11:30-1:30 & May 20: 11:30-3:30PM

Quilts created using lots of narrow fabric strips are called string quilts! To stabilize all those skinny strips, we use paper as a base for a technique called foundation piecing. Add this awesome technique to your repetoire and get started on your beautiful quilt! Finished size: 63” x 84”- or whatever size you like!

The first session of each class will be devoted to fabric selection and learning how to create the chosen block. From there, you will work at your own pace while creating your quilt top. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Quilt Top Materials: A Practical Guide to Patchwork, 8-10 yards of fabric for strips, 1 yard for sashing, thread.

Kitchen Window
$45 plus materials

Sundays, June 3, 17 & 24: 11:30-1:30PM

This quilt is the perfect way to highlight your favorite fabrics! Each block is pieced to look like an abstract window frame- get ready to love fussy cutting! Finished Size: 52” x 68”.

The first session of each class will be devoted to fabric selection and learning how to create the chosen block. From there, you will work at your own pace while creating your quilt top. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Home Decor

Envelope Pillow
$30 plus materials

Tuesday, April 17: 6-8PM

Decorate your home with a simple envelope back pillow. If you’re a novice, this is a great way to get a little more sewing success under your belt!

Please come to class with your fabric selected. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: 1.25 yards of fabric makes 2 pillows, thread. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Zippered Pillow
$30 plus materials

Take the next step in your stitching and learn to apply invisible zippers to your pillows! You will make one 18” x 18” pillow in class.

Please come to class with your fabric selected. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: ½ yard of fabric, thread, 18” zipper. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Corded Pillow
$50 plus materials

Learn to make pillows with polish! In this class you will learn to make your own bias cut cording and complete an 18” x 18” pillow.

Please come to class with your fabric selected. You should be familiar with sewing machine basics to take this class.

Materials: 1.25 yards of fabric for cording, ½ yard fabric for pillow, thread, 1.5 yards of cording. All materials are available for purchase at Spool. Use of our sewing machines, rotary cutters, scissors, mats, and rulers are included for class sessions.

Curtain Workshop
$35 includes materials

Tuesday, April 10: 6-8PM
Tuesday, May 15: 6-8PM
Tuesday, June 19: 6-8PM

Curtains are simple to make but the the size can be daunting we know! In our workshop, you will discuss curtain styles, learn how to measure your windows & calculate fabric requirements. You will sew a mini curtain sample out of muslin to practice the skills you need to make curtains for your whole house.

Open Sewing
$10 per hour, one hour minimum.

Monday through Friday from 11-5

You are welcome to use our sewing machines, irons, and all the tools we have available, for your projects. We offer a clean, bright, quiet space to get creative. You should be familiar with sewing basics for this independent project time.
