Curious Nature & Simple Backpack

Curious Nature

Curious Nature

Curious Nature is a new home decor weight fabric collection from Parson Gray, aka David Butler, aka Amy Butler’s husband! Parson Gray’s aim is to bring something modern and artistic with a little mid-century flair to the quilting market. The muted palette and minimal design keep things simple and graphic, while the hand drawn designs add a natural, whimsical feel.

Simple Drawstring Backpack

Since Curious Nature is a heavier weight cotton sateen at 54″ wide, it will work beautifully for pillows, curtains, and bags. After sufficient oohing and ahhhing over it’s arrival, I decided to use it to make the Drawstring Backpack from Simple Sewing by Lotta Jansdottir. This print is named Coral Reef, but I think it has a wonderful feathery look. I love the idea of these plumes on a backpack- just like wings! For the straps, I used the stepping stones print as a contrast. Don’t the ovals look super cool when cut into thin strips?

The pattern doesn’t call for a lining, which normally I might add anyway, but the fabric is so substantial, it doesn’t need it. I use this as my bag for when I ride my bike around town, and it it’s just the right size for my essentials, plus a sweater and a book. Awesome!

Any chance you’ll be offering this in a kit form to be ordered online for those of us not in the Phila area?
