I am thrilled to announce that Denyse Schmidt will be joining us for a weekend of sewing workshops March 17 & 18! I am a HUGE fan of Denyse’s work and of Denyse herself. Craig and I have taken two classes with her at her Bridgeport, CT studio, and found both visits inspiring, creative and so much fun. I left ready to create new quilts with a fresh approach!

My creation

Denyse is an artist, quilter, author and designer as well as a fantastic teacher. Working on a variety of projects, from Couture custom quilts & her Denyse Schmidt Works retail collections to designing fabric for Freespirit, Denyse has achieved great success and made a career as an artist from her quilting- most impressive!

Her fabric collections include Flea Market Fancy, Katie Jump Rope, Hope Valley and Greenfield Hill, and she is the author of Denyse Schmidt Quilts, 30 Colorful Quilt and Patchwork Projects. If you aren’t familiar with her work, be sure to visit her website to read more about her.

March holds the release of her new book, Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration as well as the re-release of her popular fabric line, Flea Market Fancy, both of which will be arriving at Spool just in time for Denyse’s visit!

CLASSES

Taking a class with Denyse is like being in art school for a day. Explore color, composition and your own creativity!

Please call the shop at 215-545-0755 to sign up. Full payment is required to reserve your space, and is non-refundable.

Craig's blocks & my blocks from Denyse's Class

Improvisational Patchwork
Saturday, March 17: 10AM-4PM
$250 includes a vegetarian lunch

A hands-on opportunity to learn Denyse’s intuitive design techniques while building a foundation for bringing your own individual style to quilts or projects from her book, or your own creations. Whether you are an experienced quilter or a beginning crafter, you will create exciting, rut-breaking work that will change the way you think about color, patchwork, and your own creativity.

What You Need to Bring
* 1/4 yard of a single fabric to use in the workshop.

Pure Improvisation
Sunday, March 18: 10AM-4PM
$250 includes a vegetarian lunch

This is a brand new workshop from Denyse! In this workshop, you’ll explore the farthest reaches of improvisational patchwork – and your own creativity – using traditional patterns as a foundation. We’ll begin with fun, fast-paced exercises to become completely familiar with a single quilt pattern. Once we internalize its basic structure, we can apply the principles of improvisation to create spontaneous and uniquely individual expressions of a single theme.

Some improvisational piecing experience recommended but not required.

Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration Booksigning
Saturday, March 17: 5-6PM
free

Come meet Denyse and she’ll sign your copy of her new book, Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration! Copies of the book will be available for purchase at Spool.
