Nadja chose 3 stunning Free Spirit Designer Solids to complement the warm hues in what I think of as the “Desert” colorway of this collection. It’s so fun seeing all those textures playing together! The bright yellows and popping teals are a wonderful antidote to all this gray weather we’ve been having, don’t you think?
After Nadja and Olga arranged it, Olga and I stitched it up quick! One of the best things about this pattern is that once you make up your mind about block placement, it takes such a short time to sew. Then you can get on to the quilting!
For this quilt, I never deter from the quilting style I saw in the original quilt by Sujata Shah, the pattern’s designer. It involves a free flowing, meandering line stitched in one direction across the quilt. Sujata always says of this technique, “Now, you’re going to want to have a glass of wine and relax, and then start your quilting!” Sage advice for those of us that have a hard time stitching outside of the lines!
I love the energetic, cheerful quality of this quilt, and if you do too, kits are available in both shops for $38.00. Each kit comes with the 10 fat quarters we used and the Piano Keys pattern. Happy stitching!
