Bird Mobile for a Designer('s) Baby

by Laura on August 27, 2009

Bird Mobile made by Anthropologie Designers

One of our favorite stores, Anthropologie, has a headquarters here in Philadelphia. Besides all the great shopping, we are lucky to count many of their creative staff as customers. Meredith is one of them, and she let us know about a special project they have been working on. Inspired by our Bird Mobile, designers from different departments stitched a personalized bird using our pattern. Then, they gathered their flock together and created a mobile for a co-worker expecting her first baby. So sweet!

Each little birdie has been embroidered, embellished, and comes complete with note full of well wishes for their friend. I love all of the special details, from lace trim to colorful wings. Having access to all the bits and bobs they must have in their offices would be so much fun! The new mom says the mobile was “by far and without a doubt the absolute best gift” they have received. Amazing job! Thanks so much for sharing, Meredith!

that is amazing and just so cute. I love how they designed each bird, giving me ideas for mine! I just need to find some awesome pieces of wood like they did. The one I have right now is more of the twig variety.

So precious! I made a couple of the birds to adorn my desktop!

These are wonderful. It’s amazing how many ways the same simple pattern can be used to create an individual piece.

I just completed my version of your bird mobile for a baby shower today – imagine my surprise when I checked back on your blog and this was the most recent post! I tried to stick as close to your original design as possible, and the mom-to-be just loved the mobile. Feel free to check out the pictures on my blog. Thank you, thank you for such a wonderful inspiration and keep up the good work!

Wow this is a beautiful mobile, and such a great idea. That is one lucky colleague. I love this bird mobile, and it is on my list to do one day. I love your blog, it is very inspiring and I have enjoyed the sewing comps.

I love the birds! They are my most favorite of all your free patterns. I made a mobile of them for my sister’s new baby. They are so easy and so sweet I think I’ll make a mobile of my own for my livingroom. Now I’ve just got to find the right fabrics – a chore I never loathe!!!

I love the details on their birdies, I might have to add some lace details to the version I just finished for the little boy I’m expecting any day now!

Oh you guys have just given me the best idea ever for my best friends new baby, I have already made the birds, but the little touches make it so personal and one of a kind, like every little baby. Thanks Laura (Australia)
