Everything Tote
March 22nd, 2009The Everything Tote is the first project that jumped out at me in Heather Ross’ new book, Weekend Sewing True Lies buy Vacancy 2 divx . Right away, I wanted it made up in this amazing print from Amy Butler’s August Fields Shanghai Kiss buy Hellboy Animated: Blood and Iron on dvd home dec collection. I think this pattern showcases the fabric beautifully, and vice versa! We lined the bag with a home decorator weight fabric as well, which makes for a nice, sturdy bag. Great for groceries, picnics, beach towels, and sewing supplies, of course!
Of course, when you don’t need to tote around all your groceries, you can easily fold in the top corners for a cute, hobo style bag. Just enough room for you wallet, keys, phone, and a cardigan in case it gets chilly- now you’re all ready to head out for dinner. I can tell this is going to be my go-to bag for Spring!

Ooooh, I love the Everything Tote that you made and have to order that book and fabric. Do you know what the fabric requirements are? Do you carry the fabric?
Thanks so much!

Hi Chris! You need a yard of 2 fabrics, and yes we do carry these. You can give us a call at the shop if you’d like to pick some up!

I love this tote. Your take on the handle makes it so cute and dainty. I made one last weekend and I was impressed with how fast I made it.

I was planning on making this tote this weekend (made the wrap skirt and LOVE it). I bought the fabric – 1/2 yard of each. I swear that’s what the books says. But the pattern piece for the body is larger than 1/2 a yard. Am I missing something on the directions or did I buy the wrong amount of fabric?
Thanks!

Hi Leah- You are right, the pattern does call for 1/2 yard amounts, but unfortunately there is a misprint in the book. I know that the Heather & the publishers make every effort to catch mistakes, but sometimes they slip through. Heather has an errata page at her website for the book. You can find it here: http://heatherross.squarespace.com/weekend-sewing-errata/. I hope that helps!
