Quilt Happy

March 24th, 2008

Two of our favorite new lines are the Michael Miller’s Organics Collection and Ginger Blossom by Sandy Henderson. As luck would have it, our friend Debbie at Michael Miller sent us a trunk show with two sweet quilts in these pretty cottons.

Organic Garden Quilt

This 100% organic cotton quilt is simple in color but has fun techniques worked in. The simple piecing creates the canvas for a modern applique flower motif. I love the yo-yo centers of the flowers!! This would be a great baby quilt for the parents that are keeping the baby’s gender a secret!

Ginger Blossom Quilt

Sandy Henderson is a new designer and Ginger Blossom is her first collection for Michael Miller. It’s easy to see her fresh and playful attitude in this fun quilt. The ruffle makes it perfect for the girliest of little (or grown-up) girls!

We are so pleased to be carrying these lines, both of these patterns are complimentary when you pick out your fabrics. We hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we do!

I swore I would not allow myself to become enamored with sewing. I have enough crafting as is with knitting. My ravelry queue is already 3 pages! So what do you guys do? You open Spool and now sewing is unavoidable. Some members of my stitch n’ bitch group and I are already planning to sign up for your classes. Last night we totally ignored our knitting to talk about sewing machines! We can’t wait!

Hi Susanne, I’m glad you’re so excited! You won’t have to wait long, as I am posting the class schedule tomorrow! See you soon!

Love both quilts! I sew quite a bit and am interested in quilting; are these both lap size? Available in kits?

    Thanks for the info!

Hi, Chris! Yes, these are both lap sized quilts- perfect for a sofa throw. We don’t have them in kits, but we’d be happy to help you pick out everything you need to make one. Thanks!

How did you make the ruffled edge??? It is cute and I was thinking of doing it on one of my quilts!

Since this was a quilt from a trunk show, I can only guess how it was made! You’re going to take your ruffle fabric and and then sew a long running stitch along the top edge and then pull on the threads to gather it. Then line up the gathered edge with the edge of your quilt top ( right sides facing) and pin in place- just like you would do with a double fold binding. Flip the ruffle up so that the raw edge gets “sandwiched” inside the quilt. Fold over a small hem on the backing and slip stitch the backing to the ruffle. I would do each of the four sides separately, and then hand sew the corners together.

    I hope that helps!
