Two of our favorite new lines are the Michael Miller’s Organics Collection and Ginger Blossom by Sandy Henderson. As luck would have it, our friend Debbie at Michael Miller sent us a trunk show with two sweet quilts in these pretty cottons.

Organic Garden Quilt

This 100% organic cotton quilt is simple in color but has fun techniques worked in. The simple piecing creates the canvas for a modern applique flower motif. I love the yo-yo centers of the flowers!! This would be a great baby quilt for the parents that are keeping the baby’s gender a secret!

Ginger Blossom Quilt

Sandy Henderson is a new designer and Ginger Blossom is her first collection for Michael Miller. It’s easy to see her fresh and playful attitude in this fun quilt. The ruffle makes it perfect for the girliest of little (or grown-up) girls!

We are so pleased to be carrying these lines, both of these patterns are complimentary when you pick out your fabrics. We hope you’ll enjoy them as much as we do!

Midwest Modern

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

We got a much needed dose of Spring today with the arrival of Amy Butler’s latest collection, Midwest Modern. We have always been big fans of Amy’s work, and it seems fitting that her new collection has arrived just days after we opened our shop. Midwest Modern is everything we want to be - bright, pretty, and a little groovy!

Hello World

When Laura and I first talked about opening a fabric shop it was less about planning a business and more about daydreaming. We talked about the fabrics we’d carry and the books and patterns we’d stock; which brand of thread and the pins that we like. We’d surf the internet looking at new fabric collections and reading blogs, and email each other links saying, this would be great, and, how cute is this?

Suddenly we were scouting out locations and thinking about fixtures. The conversations became longer and more serious. We started a budget.

Already people have asked if we got the name Spool from Loop. The answer is no. Spool came up when I was trying to find a name for Loop. At the time, we thought it would be a great name for a fabric shop. Shortly after we met, I even told Laura, I have a great name for a fabric shop. She loved it, and we went back to our knitting.

After thinking about Spool (we now called it by name) for more than a year, we realized that we were serious and the planning began. We met with sales representatives from our favorite companies, we ordered books and thread and needles. When the hair salon next-door to Loop moved, we signed a lease and began renovating. The dust settled, the fabric arrived, and yesterday we opened the door. Whew!

As much fun as we’ve had putting Spool together, now the real fun begins because we can share it with you. We hope you’ll join us and explore the exciting world of sewing!
